J. Wayne Fears is a wildlife biologist by training and former editor of Rural Sportsmen magazine. Fears has written more than four thousand articles for the Southern Sportsman Journal, Turkey Call magazine, Great Days Outdoor magazine, Whitetails Unlimited Magazine, and a number of other publications. He built his own log cabin almost seventeen years ago and has been enjoying it ever since. His favorite getaway is an Alaskan trapper's-style cabin on his property in Cross Creek Hollow, Alabama.

Biography

J. Wayne Fears is one of the most prolific writers of outdoor literature. He has had over 6200 magazine articles published and he has written 32 books including how-to, novel, and humor. He has been awarded numerous awards for journalism and conservation. He was voted into the Explorers Club and enshrined in the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame.

June 2018, at its 13th annual conference, held in Lincoln, NB, the Professional Outdoor Media Association awarded its top national book award, the Pinnacle Award, to The Lodge Book of Dutch Oven Cooking written by author J. Wayne Fears.

At the 53rd Southeastern Outdoor Press Association conference at Kentucky Dam Village Resort Park, the new book The Lodge Book of Dutch Oven Cooking by J. Wayne Fears received first place as the Best Outdoor Book for 2017. The 165 page, full color book is a complete guide for cooking in the cast iron camp Dutch oven and features 34 tested recipes.

March 2013 J. Wayne's book Isaac - Trek to King's Mountain was the the recipient of a prestigious Pinnacle Outstanding Achivement Book Award given by the Professional Outdoor Media Association. This is the first time an e-book has ever received the award. The book is now available as a paperback.

October 2013 Isaac - Trek to King's Mountain received First Place in the Best Outdoor Book Award given by the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association and sponsored by Chevrolet.This was the first time an e-book has ever won the coveted book award.
